Maria Sharapova was born on 19 April 1987 in the city of Nyagan, Russia, with Yuri and Yelena. In 1994, she moved from Russia to the United States with her father to enroll at Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida. Her mother had to stay back in Russia because she did not get a visa after two years and she joined them.

Maria Sharapova was not immediately given admission to the Nick Bolateri Tennis Academy because she was too young to join the academy. He initially trained tennis at the Rick Maxi Tennis Academy and later signed an agreement with the International Management Group (IMG), a global sports and talent organization based in New York.
